Funding for Coaches

NCCP Coach Bursary Program

Up to a maximum of $300 per individual in the fiscal year (April 1, 2024-March 31, 2025) will be available to cover up to 60% of eligible course registration fees (workshop training) and up to 90% for completion of certification process (portfolio + evaluation). Home study workshops are no longer eligible.

  1. Register and Pay
  2. Submit application for review which must be received between April 1, 2024 – March 31, 2025.
  3. An email will be sent by CAO office that will indicate the status of your application and include your next steps. Please read the email notification and review how to submit the final report, proof of payment and proof of completion
  4. Complete coach training or evaluation activity
  5. Submit final report for activity identified on the approved application.

Workshop – 60% Evaluation – 90%

The CAO will provide grants and support under this program to coaches who meet the following criteria:

  • Current member in good standing with a recognized PSO/MSO under the MHSTCI through the Sport Recognition Policy.
  • Minimum National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Competition and/or Instructor Stream trained (or equivalent);
  • Are assigned as the coach of athletes to attending competitions; and
  • Are a resident of Ontario

* Changes are for the April 2024 – March 2025 fiscal year (reviewed annually)

  • Coaches must have completed the workshop and/or evaluation between April 1, 2024 – March 31, 2025*
  • Coaches must apply for the bursary between April 1, 2024 – March 31, 2025*
  • Coaches must submit final report by March 31, 2025*
  • Bursaries are eligible for In-Person and Remote/Online formats. Home Study is not eligible
  • eLearning modules purchased through The Locker are not eligible. Such modules include, but are not limited to: NCCP Leading Drug-Free Sport; NCCP Managing Conflict Online Evaluation; NCCP Sport Nutrition; NCCP Make Ethical Decisions Online Evaluation; NCCP Coaching Athletes with a Disability; NCCP Coach Initiation in Sport; NCCP Creating a Positive Sport Environment
  • Bursaries not available for old Technical or Practical 1, 2, 3
  • Bursaries are not available for Community based workshops
  • Bursaries are available for Competition Introduction and Competition Development Multi-Sport Modules
  • Coaches must pay their own course fee. Course fees paid in advance of the workshop by the club, league, sport association, etc, are not eligible for coach bursary

Low income coaches can receive a bursary for 100% of the registration fee on one workshop. Additional workshops may be funded up to a maximum of $300. Please review the eligibility requirements before applying to see if you are eligible

How to access the Low-Income Coach Bursary

Two options available:

  • Option 1 – Direct to Coach – If coach paid out of pocket for workshop/training activity, CAO will provide the bursary directly to coach once coach has completed the NCCP training activity and submitted final report
  • Option 2 – Direct to Club/Organization – If club/organization covered the cost of the NCCP training workshop/training activity, CAO will provide the bursary directly to the club/organization once the coach has completed the NCCP training activity and submitted final report.

Steps to access the Low Income Coach Bursary

  1. Coach must submit application by selecting Option 1: Direct to Coach or Option 2: Direct to Club/Organization
  2. Once coach has applied, CAO will review application and provide an update to coach
  3. Coach must complete the NCCP workshop/training
  4. Submit final report (coaches will receive this Final Report from CAO once application is approved)
